Family Dollar Stores Inc Reviews
What is it like working at Family Dollar Stores Inc?
Retail Store Manager:
Family dollar has a lot of problems. Work load for store managers is overwhelming. To maintain the store as needed about 60 to seventy hrs. A week. It can get done on less but conditions go down. Not enough hours for the stores. Comp sales are flat. The bonuses are terrible. Most managers work by themselves for 3 to 4 hours per day. Some more than that. Have lost a lot of the experienced employees. Having a hard time replacing this experience. I do not recomend anyone to work for this company. I had 15 years with this company, 52 years total in retail.
Assistant Store Manager:
The store has some definite potential. I love helping people, but unfortunately due to the cut in labor hours our customers do not always receive the help they need. I feel if the store was more organized and product of one nature was together. Customers would have a more speedy, stress-free , atmosphere for their shopping experience. It would also help if we had a manager that cared about customer/employee relations. The customer is what is most important to sales , so why not give them a great experience no matter the language they speak or the color of their skin. The communication could use some work too. Team work is important. Managers job is to delegate , but helping your employees is even better. Overall I love the customers, and I'm great ful to have a job , but if I could change the management and customer experience I would.
Retail Store Assistant Manager:
I've been employed with Family Dollar for 4 yrs. Overall, I love the job and was promoted very quickly. I went from a Customer Service Representative to an Assistant Manager in 2 months. Then from an Assistant Manager to a Manager in Training in 2 yrs time. I'm now a Store Manager, this wasn't something just handed to me though I put A LOT into my work and busted my hump to get to where I am. My main complaint is that when Dollar Tree took over there was a shift in the culture. We went from a "family" to a machine. It's all about making money for DT now.. Which is fine, but there are things the company could invest in to make our jobs easier since they put so much pressure on us to 'Do Better, Sell More!' It's also difficult to manage a home-work life balance since somethings always changing (like truck delivery) at the last minute. And if someone calls out and you cant find a replacement you have to close the store on your own, even though it's 'technically' against company policy, BUT if you have the right staff in place this is no longer an issue. I do recommend the job, it could become a career with enough hard work and determination. Just be prepared for a lot of loong work days! Still worth it though :)
Scheduling.
Customer Service Representative (CSR):
Pros: Hours are suited to my needs most of the time. Managers are not the best at their job but they are mostly friendly. Pay is above min wage.
Cons: Frequent schedule changes without notice. Conflicts between sm and asm cause snags in the team I work with.
Hectic.
Assistant Store Manager:
Pros: Merchandising helping customers.
Cons: Stressful.
Retail Store Manager:
Pros: The customers.
Cons: No days off.
Retail Store Manager:
Pros: The overall store and generally the people.
Cons: The unqualified help and the theft.
