Always seek to get better.
Software Engineer:
Work hard and constantly study: read professional books, blogs, experiment with new technology. Push yourself to learn new things and constantly improve. Learn from those around you and always look back to your past projects to see what you could've done better: were you wrong in your estimates? If so, why? Did you choose a design that proved to be ineffective? What were its shortcomings? It's a constantly changing field and you should be ready to change with it. The way that you used to do things might no longer be effective; be open to changes in both technology and work methodologies.
