Microchip Technology, Inc Reviews
What is it like working at Microchip Technology, Inc?
Great people.
Lead Software Development Engineer (SDE) in Burnaby:
Pros: Productive interactions with colleagues and support
Cons: Sometimes the work can get pretty tedious
Stressing.
Software Engineer in Chandler:
Pros: Working on programming and my field
Cons: The pay I receive I believe is under what my responsibilities involve
Electronics Technician in Bloomfield:
“We get what we can afford, not what we need”. Ganesh Moorthy, our President and Chief Operating Officer said this to our site in our first meeting with him. True to his word, we almost never have what we need, nor is there hardly any forward progress on that front. However, as a company who has an extremely conservative view on what it can afford, they never seem to bite off more that they can chew. From the view in the trenches, it is nice to know that even though he next recession is on the horizon, there is a very good chance that the overwhelming majority of us will retain out employment no matter how bad things get. But, they are very likely to make/force you to leave if you ever want a raise. The average raise at my site this year was about 1%. And it was the first raise in 3 years. So, stability yes, desire to stay… varying. If you apply with Microchip, get the highest possible starting wage as you will likely not ever get a raise worth a darn. As with any company there are pros and cons. Some things I really appreciate about Microchip, others make me and many coworkers look for greener pastures. Oh well… we all get taken to the slaughterhouse eventually.
Below average Comp - Decent Work/Life balance.
Design Engineer in Hauppauge:
Pros: The work-life balance is very good. Compensation is lacking in all areas (pay, bonus, stock, medical). The people are friendly and smart for the most part and there's not much tension.
Cons: The compensation sucks. There's no transparency with the growth opportunities or pay brackets. Dont know when or if i'll be promoted and raises are bare minimum. You have to fight for yourself otherwise they will give you the bare minimum and keep you there.
Not a bad place to work.
Software Engineer in Cypress:
Pros: The flexibility to work from home as needed and working with other coworkers.
Cons: I feel like I'm always fixing product defects.
In house promotion.
Software Engineer in Colorado Springs:
Pros: I came up from the ranks, and appreciate every day not wearing a clean room suit
Cons: It's a cubicle
Not great, just OK.
Engineering Technician in Hauppauge:
Pros: The ability to learn
Cons: Low pay
