What is it like working as a Youth Counselor?

April 2019
Great.
Youth Counselor in Norfolk:

Cons: Pay isn’t well
July 2014
Micromanagement, Poor Salary, 2% Raises Annually.
Youth Counselor:
Pros: Being able to see unsuccessful children become success stories and go back to public school because I spent most of the time helping them more than anyone else at that facility.
Cons: All the work you do to help the children goes unnoticed. Upper management will take credit for your achievements and then lecture or micromanage you. It is impossible to move up in the company so as to obtain more pay and responsibilities. The facility brings in extremely high risk children that we are not equipped to handle. This creates fear of possibly losing our jobs if we have to defend ourselves from aggressive and violent children. If you have rave reviews on your evaluation with your supervisor you will only get the standard 2% pay increase annually that everyone else receives. Ergo, no incentive to try hard.
May 2014
Working with young youth attitude/behavior.
Youth Counselor:
Pros: Working with the youth.
Cons: None.
