4 Rules: 1. Pick you Boss more carefully than you do your job. 2. Don't be afraid to take a step to the side, or even backward to consolidate your knowledge and experience; it will propel you forward faster than others. 3. Stay relevant, whatever that takes (knowledge, diversity of positions, thought leadership, moving around globally, etc.) 4. Build an understanding of how the politics work in your environment and work very hard to build your bridges with those with integrity and then don't play the game, create one that is focused on the company's agenda (not your own), doing the right thing (regardless of other consequences), and staying humble (although you still need to self-promote from time to time.)
