Intern at a Startup.
Software Engineering Intern:
Pros: I have a limited background with programming (I got an electrical engineering degree and am backward when it comes to computers (and many other things)). I really want to do programming however, thus I really like that got to work at this start-up company and do some programming with Python. I get to interact with the other employees which is nice. The CEO is nice. I could work from home, but since I don't want to put the software on my personal computer, I prefer to go into the office. The office the CEO rents pace from is pleasant. (Some people bring their dogs. I like to pet them.) The software development is for improving rendering. I like working with the knowledgeable underemployed visual effects artist that works for the CEO part time and who help us so much. The art aspect is interesting to me. I took art classes in high school, but pursued engineering instead.
I interned through program that promised $6000 and 400 hours of work. CEO pays half; program pays half.
Cons: I worry that the CEO did not make a wise choice in hiring me though because my background is so weak. I am hoping for two things: 1) he wants me to keep working form him and 2) the startup makes it!
I also wonder if the pay is bad. If he does want to keep me on, should I ask for a higher hourly rate? I don't know a) if I am worth a higher salary or b) if it is wise to ask for more when he isn't even selling a product yet!
The other thing I don't like is that he uses Non-commercial software. This seems illegal to me. However, the other day I heard him say he has to by the licenses when he starts selling because then he will be commercial. Is that how it works? I don't know as I am not a lawyer.

Cons: Stress.
