Social Worker Reviews

What is it like working as a Social Worker?

March 2014
Direct Service With Clinical Skills Needed.
Social Worker:
Pros: I love the variety of the work I do, the clientele vary in their range of need from me, and the data required from regulations validates the contribution of social work services. I also find it helpful to be connected to other social workers in other clinics, I can always find someone who knows how to handle a specific situation. I also like being useful for the patients as well as the staff.
Cons: I need to be earning more money, I hope I won't have to leave the job to be able to do that. I also need a better retirement plan. DaVita is in the news often for being a Fortune 500 company, and our CEO earns so very much dollars, but for the rest of us workers, it is painful to see the way raises are not given at intervals that they should, the management principles are not often carried out even though they are sound practices.
February 2014
Live Near Your Work.
Social Worker:
Take offers for starting positions to get experience, but then search for the position you want and change to that as soon as you can within 5-8 years of first position. Once you reach the upper portion of the pay scale it is not financially worth it to change districts as most won't match your current pay level.
January 2014
Court work.
Social Worker:
To allow time to develop and learn court paperwork and scales.
November 2013
Case management
Social Worker:
There is a lot of report writing and the job is not as hands on as I thought it would be.
