What is it like working as a Senior Mechanical Engineer?

Senior Mechanical Engineer:
Pros: I have some great people to work with @GE, and I like the usefulness of my product/area of expertise (Heavy Duty Gas Turbines).
I have a great boss (11 of 13 of my GE direct & "dotted line" reports have been excellent). The product continues to improve and there is both the need and opportunity to learn more of our technology.
I have been able to influence the retrofit product market basket over the years, and enjoy interfacing with both design & sales worlds. As an engineer, I like to solve problems and can find win-win solutions to customer problems.
Cons: The continuous re-organizations and HR forced job churn has created a rather unwieldy "matrix" organization with fewer product/system experts and jumbled information management systems on the working level. We have fabulous pockets of expertise, but the "chimney" arrangement makes it harder to find.
I believe that many of our problems result from management fads taught at MBA schools. The current executive grooming process encourages short sighted infrastructure decisions because the consequences are easily escaped by taking another business assignment. This is likely endemic to heavy industrial companies rather than peculiar to GE.
We get paid to overcome problems and get things done. Whatever the corporate system, it is gratifying to get hardware out the door that keeps the power flowing on the grid.

Pros: 9/80 work schedule.
Interesting and technically challenging work.
Knowledgeable colleagues.
Cons: Too many policies and procedures.
Working with union employees.

Lots Of Challenges, Work Flexibility, Nice Office Building.

Pros: Technically challenging, fast paced, globally focused, new problems to solve daily, and most of all team focused.
Cons: Very little room to move to different opportunities.

Senior Mechanical Engineer:
Basics in Engineering are key.
Quick for change in job responsibilities and project objectives.
Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Ability to work with muti-ethnical teams.
Ability to work with multi-site teams.
Occasional travel.
Willingness for domestic relocation every 5 to 8 years.
Willingness to relocate international if required.
Ability to mentor younger engineers.

Pros: I like my Job because is good and am feeling when am working.
Cons: Nothing too much on my said and I thank GOD because I never get bad thing in my job and I don't want to get any bad thing in my Job.
