What is it like working as a Senior Financial Analyst?

Learn Microsoft Access with Excel, SharePoint and Tableau.
Senior Financial Analyst:
Excel on its own is no longer enough to handle the volumes of data ERPs produce for successful, clear reporting. This has been coming for a while as ERP detail becomes more important and has to be combined with data from multiple systems to get useful information.
MS Access has been the wallflower of the Office Suite. Patience, courtesy and care in asking her to dance are rewarded. Nearly every financial setup has Access, already in place. Starting maximum storage is 2GB, but SQL Server or SharePoint Lists can be used as back end tables to offer much larger storage. The Visual Basic for Applications code is not the same for Excel and Access, but Excel can be controlled from within Access.
Historic data stored through Access allows for meaningful comparisons in analysis and aids forecasting.
Tableau is the missing link Excel and Access developers have been missing. It produces visual and tabular reports that can be filtered easily but powerfully by the viewer.

Great Financial Insights On Business.
Senior Financial Analyst:
Pros: Communication across hierarchies - Upper and junior management both.
Cons: Pay.
September 2014
Excellent Company For Career Growth.
Senior Financial Analyst:
Pros: Very supportive and career-nurturing organization, if you're willing to relocate for your growth. Pay for performance, flexible management, and focused on results vs. doing everything a certain way. Good benefits, bonus structure is fair, and corporate communication has improved over the few years I've been with the company.
Cons: HQ is in Boston, and many corporate/group/divisional offices are centered around this area. Many facilities scattered throughout the country and abroad, including new Life Technologies acquisition HQ in San Diego area. If you're in either area, growth opportunities abound. If you begin your career with Thermo Fisher anywhere else, be prepared for a relocation once you stagnate in your current position.
