Research Technicians will always fear grant money drain.
Research Technician:
I didn't realize that the job I fell into after grad school, which happen to be at the same school and lab I attended, as a research tech would be a job that would cause me so much anxiety. It's not the job itself, but the notion that the position is 100% dependent on grant money that runs out every year or two. The job forces you to worry about where your next paycheck will come from. This is not the right way to have a research position. The school should be funding these jobs. Anyways, the actual work itself, marine physiology/marine monitoring, is rewarding and diverse from day to day. Too bad I am always in jeopardy of loosing the job when the grant runs out.

Research Technician:
Pros: Flexible hours, casual culture.
Cons: No structure.
