Great in terms of working conditions. But there is still a long way to go regarding fair compensation and carreer progress.
Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer in Maputo:
Pros: Flexibility of working style (Remote/field/office). The most important is not presence at work, but results. Freedom to innovate and experiment new solutions.
Cons: Lack of carrer growth opportunities. Its like a museum, once you are there you stagnate indefinitedly. You just wait for luck. There is no clear carreer progress plan and meritocracy seems not to have significative weight on carrer advacememt decisions. The future of a professional the Network Technology Operations is uncertaint.
November 2021
Stimulating, Always learning.
Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer in Cape Town:
Pros: The type of work, learning all the time
Cons: Disconnect between management and engineers
August 2021
Post-Merger, Mid-Pandemic Eval.
Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer in Melbourne:
Pros: The other employees in my department, from new hires up to top level technical and managerial staff, are an amazing group of individuals. Senior engineers in the company are always willing to help and everyone seems to generally have your best interests in mind which is extremely rare, from my experience, in this day and age.
Cons: Possibly due to COVID, but the workload has been insufficient to keep new hires busy. Alot of the work you get after being hired is basically earned through the building of relationships with other high ranking members of your department. I do not enjoy having to network myself inside of my own company in order to attain work experience relevant to my degree. I expect two main things from any employer, a competitive salary and a constant flow of work inside of my field in order to attain greater technical knowledge, which in hand makes me worth more and develop more quickly as an engineer. The pay and benefits are there, but I feel I have lost quite a bit of valuable time starting in my field due to the low availability of work for new hires.
