Stay in college.
Produce Department Manager (Grocery):
When I started 28 years ago I was attending community college. I was asked to stop school so that I could work full time at Stater Bros because the company didn't want to waste time on people who were going to graduate and move on to another job. A produce manager made significantly more than most recent college graduates back in the 80s.
The company then shifted it's focus to encouraging education and you will now find it hard to get any type of promotion without a college degree or retail management certificate.
STAY IN COLLEGE this job is a dead end.
February 2016
The level of ignorance in upper management.
Produce Department Manager (Grocery):
I would suggest preparing for an intensive program outlining people management quality inspection credit acquisitions schedule preperations and inventory ordering accuracy.
Computer skills will make all this easier and a good attitude with people.
