General Music Teacher Review.
Music Teacher in Raymond:
Pros: It's been wonderful working in Raymond, NH. The parent support is wonderful. For the past 16 years I've been able to teacher piano and guitar, as well as composing music. Students have enjoyed composing their own songs along with learning songs for piano and guitar. Students learn a class song (Select one song from a choice of two different classical songs) along with a song of their choice; some students select a song they like from online, some select a song from the classroom music book. I like the excitement of the students realizing that they can become a successful musician!
Cons: People not understanding/respecting my passion for my general music program. I believe that every child has the right to appreciate and learn how to play piano and/or guitar.

Music Teacher in Gary:
Integrate music with the other core subjects. It will help non-music people value your work.
General Ed classroom teachers are territorial. Be careful how you tread.
The arts are still generally not respected. Be confident and able to give a reason why music is necessary and important to your administration, co-workers, students and parents.

Lots of Outside Work.
Music Teacher:
While teaching is very rewarding, it is physically and mentally exhausting. There never is enough prep time to prepare for teaching and so you have to do lots of work outside of the 40 hours you put in. If you want to be a teacher, be prepared for it to consume your life.

Pros: Great working with kids, play music all day, communicate with various people, friendly environment, love to meet new people.
Cons: Sometimes feel unappreciated, boss won't give me new chances to test myself and grow. Was asked to step down from the position I worked to get, so someone else can have my hours and pay.
