Get a 2-year degree in Opticianry/Ophthalmic Technology and stay away from "apprenticeship", you don't learn very much that way. Go to work in a private optical, Optometric office or a group Ophthalmology practice. Try and stay away from retail opticals, even though they may pay a little more at first.
