Work hard and don't be afraid to take on extra work.
Information Technology (IT) Manager:
Work very hard at what you do. Do not be afraid to take on extra work or learn new technologies as it shifts on a yearly basis. You must learn to be able to work on any issue from help desk to networking. Teach your workers new skills and let them grow in their career. Do not hold them back because they will make your department look strong even if they leave you can always get someone fresh who is willing to learn. It is very important to have excellent communication skills in this role.

Otherwise its difficult to motivate why to give a promotion or raise.
