What is it like working as a Heavy / Tractor-Trailer Truck Driver?

December 2022
Flexibility in the work.
Heavy / Tractor-Trailer Truck Driver in Lacey:
Pros: Its up to me to do the job when I can.
Cons: The lack of response from management when you reach out.
August 2022
Hiker position, no freight.
Heavy / Tractor-Trailer Truck Driver in Los Angeles:
Pros: Very easy and a training opportunity, very flexible schedule
Cons: Rental associates will do your work, cutting available hours, and overtime is often regulated strictly while mechanics are paid more than your overtime rate to do the same work at greater cost to Penske due to the delays in machine shop work. Customers are offered a $500 incentive to prevent giving us overtime hours. There aren't enough hours in a day to pay us that much at our current rate; which is lower than Central Freight offered me fresh out of school. If I didn't work for a salary at a private school, I wouldn't be doing this job at all. But the flexibility makes me thankful for it when I am earning the school salary to complement this low pay.
