Environmental Consultant Reviews

What is it like working as an Environmental Consultant?

July 2015
Dynamic and Unique Niche.
Environmental Consultant:
Pros: This is a dynamic environment working with Tribes and Tribal BIA/EPA compliance documents. Lots of field work at about 25-35% in-the-field with the rest in a casual office environment.
Cons: Low pay, unorganized management, paid leave is minimal, commute is long.
February 2015
Paperwork.
Environmental Consultant:
I did not know my job would involve this much desk based paperwork.
August 2014
Good, bad and ugly (but mostly good!)
Environmental Consultant:
Pros: You are doing something good for the world (keep telling yourself, it helps!). You get to do lots of different things, I.e. Write reports, proposals, field trips, business development, client engagement, assess industry niches (I'm building two web applications to help facilitate regulatory compliance!). Good benefits (pension, health care etc.).
Cons: High work load and constant quest for high utilization of time. Screen staring (so long that you start writing on things like this - often there is no screen staring though :-). Competitive workplace. You have to do lots of different things (also a big positive, see above).
December 2013
Good company, projects and career ladder.
Environmental Consultant:
Pros: Plenty of on the site work. Working on a diverse range of projects, 50/50 office/site. Flexible working hours and good system for booking annual leave.
Cons: Long hours, poor equipment management and often short notice of staying away from home. Mostly no overtime and bonuses.
