Choose A Degree That Puts You On A Definite Path.
Director of Purchasing:
I wish I understood a bit more how the world works. If I could go back, I would not have majored in something so general. My adviser told me it didn't matter what you major in because nobody ends up going into a field that relates directly to their major. So, he said, to just major in something that interests me. Knowing what I know now, I would have majored in something more specific that would put me on a direct path into a job where you have to have that specific degree to qualify. Some examples would be accounting, nursing, physical therapy, law, or almost anything in the medical field. With those type degrees you are qualified for things that others are not and they all tend to be good and secure jobs. Yet, you can still get into fields that are more general if you want to. Ultimately, no education is a waste of time. For Director of Purchasing, any degree will demonstrate a level of smarts and commitment. Then you just need some good experience and time under your belt.
