What is it like working as a Copy Editor?

July 2015
Working as a Copy Editor.
Copy Editor:
Pros: Working with every department and touching every aspect of the company.
Cons: Too far from home.
July 2014
Corporate culture, work flexibility, office conditions, stre.
Copy Editor:
Pros: THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE.
Cons: THE TIME CONSTRAINTS AND COLLEAGUES.
July 2014
Get Technical Skills In Addition To English (writing) Degree.
Copy Editor:
Over the years, I've accumulated either through self-study or on-the-job training skills in Microsoft Word and various desktop publishing, web publishing and image software. It is, in my opinion, extremely difficult to get a job using your English degree without these skills. In addition, make sure you are familiar with the standard style reference materials: Chicago Manual of Style, AP Manual, and Gregg Reference Manual. In whatever job you acquire, keep a portfolio of your work.

A Copy Editors Anguish.
Copy Editor:
Pros: The job is an interesting one. Especially when you have a love for books, I am sure one wouldn't explore any other job options. When one delves deep into copy editing, a satisfactory and enriching experience awaits. For the very passionate person, there are multiple avenues to express talent. After a few years of experience, one can go for certificate exams conducted by the British council. If you are technology savvy, you can get into technical writing. You can learn a new language and work as a translator as well. This starting point can take you many places.
Cons: Not the job per se. It is about the work environment, team, pay, and supervisor. The attitude of your supervisor and team members can be frustrating sometimes. While the supervisor will try to lord over you, the team members can be chinks in the armor.

It works for me.
Copy Editor:
Pros: I like being able to clean up some of the noise in the world (in this case, the bad/unclear/incorrect/poorly spelled/grammatically incorrect writing). And I like that my job feels like word-based problem solving. Showing willing-to-learn people how they can improve their writing.
Cons: Fixing the same mistakes over and over; dealing with people who can't/won't learn. The fact that people don't know what I do.
