Communications Specialist Reviews

What is it like working as a Communications Specialist?

April 2019
Rapid structural changes, opaque decision process.
Communications Specialist in Atlanta:
Pros: There seems to be a lot of room for lateral movement.
Cons: Decisions get made that affect large numbers of workers with no input. The highest managers are totally disingenuous if not often tyrannical. This "non-profit" is run like an oligarchy. Interpersonal relations can be petty, even cut throat.

Communications Specialist in Minneapolis:

February 2019
Communications Specialist:
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is exceptionally corrupt. There is no organization or mission among the administration and the few people they do hire to promote the college are not listened to, their expertise not respected. Bullying from higher-ups is common, and concerns about toxic work environment fall on deaf ears. People are shuffled around, and placed with supervisors who have little competence to manage even the most talented staff, who have huge workloads because the college is too cheap to hire enough people--then, they blame the hardworking employees for not meeting deadlines. The pay is low for the industry. Overall, UF benefits are good and UF is a great community--just avoid working for this particular college at all costs.

Cons: Traffic
December 2018
Communications Specialist:
It's a good company and I would recommend it to anyone interested, even friends or family. I'm based in the US, though the company is global/UK owned. Management is competent and working to create a positive, effective culture and office environments. The benefits are great because they have to be somewhat on par with our counterparts in the UK and there is a solid work-life balance mentality that's very different from other places I've been. I don't feel like I have to work long days, I can come in and leave on time without judgement or being a detriment to my career prospects. The people here are probably the best part, open, friendly, and welcoming. Nothing is perfect, the workload can be high and getting up to speed is a race against a tide of information, but once I got a few months into the job things have quieted down. Nearly a year in and I'm still really happy.
