What is it like working as a Baggage Handler (Aviation/Airline)?

May 2019
Not so glamorous airline industry.
Baggage Handler (Aviation/Airline) in Melbourne:
Pros: The mix of cultures throughout the ramp staff makes it a fun workplace but also very challenging at times.
Cons: The lack of improvement by the company is a constant source of frustration. Management are too prepared to repeat the same mistakes on a regular basis

26 years...could of done better.
Baggage Handler (Aviation/Airline):
Do not consider this field as a lifetime job...You work in all kinds of weather, under short time guidelines and heavy lifting...Get used to moving 9,000 lbs of cargo minimum everyday by hand...working short on crews...and being under scrutiny by bean counters, trying to cut as many personnel as they can and as often! If you can, take a flt att job.. Better pay lower working hours and less strenuous on your body...and a top wage scale of 60.00 per hour v/s our pay scale at 21.46 - 23.00 and having to work a good amount of overtime ( aprx 50 hrs per month ) just to hit 60-70k a year... Public opinion about a baggage handler, is that we should be replaced by monkeys and that we're overpaid.. But I can say this...work one month, you pick..( Spring/Summer or Winter travel ) with me...and I'll guarantee, you'll be going back to your beloved job!
