Must be ready to be worn out.

Pros: Love finding the problem with the car.
Cons: It will run you into the ground not a great place to grow as a tech o pay raise no matter how much tools or training you get the company like a lot of other shops are all about the dollar.

Pros: Being around what I love, and doing what makes me happy.
Cons: I risk my health and safety each day.

Perks.
Automotive Service Technician / Mechanic:
Pros: My job allows me to use my head and think/problem solve. So your constantly learning.
Cons: Sometimes communication is not there between us (the tech) and the service writer, so work orders and are delayed, misunderstood, ect. Slowing down productivity and pay.

Maintenance work and basic engine repair.

Pros: Consistant paychecks, good benefits, good work load.
Cons: Lazy coworkers, untrained manager, lack of shop tools and safety equipment.

Do not get into his field. Long hours, cold/hot shop. Very physically and mentally demanding. Long hours and no overtime compensation. Commission based pay rife with prejudice. Costly- must supply own tools, work boots, uniforms.
