Assistant Underwriter in Atlanta:
UA’s are grossly underpaid . It’s not about what you know to get promoted, it’s who you know. Training is minimal but you are expected to perform miracles. Live the casual atmosphere , WFH days, ERG and the my counterparts.

August 2014
Paper Pushing.
Assistant Underwriter:
Pros: You have to be organized, good at following up and making decisions based off of fact and company profitability. I like working in underwriting because you don't really have to deal with the public off hand. It is more technical than just selling insurance. You are challenged on a daily basis and learning new aspects of the insurance business in commercial underwriting.
Cons: I don't like how you can be overwhelmed with paperwork and change in insurance laws, rules and regulations. People are so use to things being done now now now with all the automated systems in technology so it can be stressful with broker demands to have things done without all information needed to rate the insurance properly.
September 2013
Insurance
Assistant Underwriter:
Pros: Varied topics and occupancy of risks, broker relations - working face to face with a variety of people. Being in the City - Lloyds. Site visits, travel opportunities. Use maths, wording knowledge, project work, indepth research and reading, geographical spread of risk and people contact, very varied skill base required but nothing to a ridiculously high standard.
Cons: Quiet/ down time can be boring. Waiting for authority is frustrating. Everyone knows everyone - quite gossipy.
