January 2017
Working in Vancouver.
Architectural Technologist in Vancouver:
Pros: The city is becoming a world city (I moved here in 1987 when it was still a giant sleepy village); culture is improving/expanding, and the food scene is great. Commuting by bike is excellent (crazy drivers excepted). Geographic location is fantastic. Getting food (as in groceries) from around the world is easy and inexpensive. Bixi just got implemented (it's called Mobi here). Great location in Cascadia, close to Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego.
Cons: Cost of accomodation is atrocious. Transit is expensive and has a silly system of zones. International travel is a bit far from Europe, and the trip to Asia is long. Vancouver is isolated from the rest of Canada, and except for the city itself, the politics - sp. Outside Vancouver - are quite right wing. The train system linking the city to other cities is underdeveloped (no TGV, poor schedules). People are too often politely superficial.
