Specsavers Reviews

What is it like working at Specsavers?

It depends entirely on your store location and your franchise owners; overall it is a great place you just have to be lucky with where you are.
Optical Dispenser in Perth:
Pros: My specific store is friendly and the staff all get along really well, I see opportunity for growth however it can often be difficult to get any support in order to achieve that growth (contacting RTM etc). My workplace paid for my Cert IV in order to increase my skills, and helped me by sending me on my usual workdays to training anf still paying me for those days.
Cons: I have been pushed into a role that I am not being paid to do, and I have brought it up with the owners of the franchise I am at, have felt like they haven't heard me and that nothing is going to change. I feel like I am being under paid for what I do.
Fast paced and hard work.
Office Administrator in Colchester:
Pros: Being trusted to work without supervision
Cons: Unappreciated, alot of favouritsism
Frontliner.
Dispensing Optician in Cape Town:
Pros: Interaction with patients
Cons: My salary
Fantastic when given the freedom to be creative and make good instructional design come to life.
E-Learning Specialist in Nottingham:
Pros: The variety of different pieces of work that I can get involved with.
Cons: Management strategies.
Challenging.
Optical Dispenser in Gold Coast:
Pros: No eyes are the same, interesting
Cons: The work especially at our busy store it’s stressful and disorganised
Optical Laboratory Technician in Castlebar:
Pros: Knowing that I am good at what I do because the work is mainly repetitive on a daily basis.
Cons: Pay is poor. 15 minute small break and 30 minute lunch break is desperate... It's not even a full hour in an 8½ hour day.
Licensed Contact Lens Fitter in Exeter:
Great for training up to become DO/CLO but don't look after you enough to want to stay. Far too much money minded managers rather thinking about patient care. Forcing you to use certain products which may not be best for the customer and then getting told off if you go for a non core range. Money could be better. Very kuch depends which area. Currently in the west area salaries are a lot to be desired. Many supervisors are on minimum wage along side those who have only just joined. No pay scale to reflect knowledge or experience. DO/CLO are treated as second class citizens and worked to the bone as they can't find more staff. Regular 50 hour weeks with no compensation for this. Benefits are minimal. If you don't have a prescription there is not much else. Holidays need to be taken as and when the business needs rather then when you actually want them. Not allowed to take weekends off in isolation and can't book off any time in December until October time. Most managers are not qualified or refuse to complete training to be a better employee. On many occasions where customers request to speak to a manager they have to see someone who isn't as they don't know how to deal with the query. Managers are generally admin based and have few interactions with customers. If you complain about a manager they just move the employee how has complained to another department rather than actually dealing with it. Staff turnover is horrendous. Usually a couple of staff leave per mon
