Legislation requirements
EU Pay Transparency laws seek to increase transparency and reduce the gender pay gap.
By June 2026, all 27 European Union (EU) Member States must pass their own individual laws to comply with the EU Pay Transparency Directive.
Legislation is driving change:
- 56% of orgs say transparency legislation is driving them to change or improve their compensation practices. (CBPR)
- 14% of orgs in Europe say pay transparency was a factor in base pay increases for 2023. (CBPR)
To adhere to the directive, employers need to prepare pay ranges prior to posting job advertisements, stop asking candidates about their salary histories, and meet pay gap disclosure obligations if they have 100 or more employees.
