Evergreen State College: Liberal Leanings Mean Low Earnings for Women
Evergreen State University is one of the most progressive schools in the country. Not only did they graduate Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, but their students don’t choose traditional majors, they accumulate credits toward a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. Instead of grades, students receive narrative evaluations documenting their progress. But males, who make up only 46% of the student body, earn more than seven times as much as female graduates over 30 years. Most likely, even attendees of this liberal school fall victim to gender stereotypes, with more female students gravitating toward subjects that pay less, like education, and more males studying the sciences.
